When Kevin Durant came into the league, many wondered just who exactly he was. The skinny kid with the smooth game had all the makings of an NBA legend, but there were still doubts about his ability to take over games. Now in his sixth season, Durant has silenced all doubt and is well on track to becoming one of the greatest players to ever lace them up.
NBA star Kevin Durant has made a name for himself as one of the hardest workers in the game. He’s gone from being a scoring champion and rookie of the year to leading his team, the Oklahoma City Thunder, to an NBA finals berth as the youngest player in history. The basketball community can now safely say that he is a superstar and an MVP. But Kevin Durant is much more than just a basketball player. There’s his charity work, the million-dollar smile, and of course there’s the family man. And now we know even more about KD as he opens up in our exclusive interview.
Durant was born in Washington, D.C. on September 29, 1988
His family soon moved to Maryland where he was raised. He began playing basketball at an early age and was influenced by his older brother, Tony, who taught him how to shoot. Kevin led the University of Texas Longhorns to the Final Four during the 2008 season before entering the NBA Draft in 2007, where he was selected second overall by the Seattle SuperSonics (now Seattle Thunderbirds).
After spending his first year with the team, the Sonics relocated to Oklahoma City where they became the Thunder. Durant has averaged more than 20 points per game since entering the league and was selected as the NBA Rookie of the Year in 2008 after leading all rookies in scoring at 20.3 ppg. He became the youngest player to ever win the coveted scoring title in 2010 and led his team to the playoffs where they lost in the Conference Finals. Kevin won his first MVP award after a stellar 2014 season, becoming only the second player in league history (after LeBron James) to win four consecutive scoring titles and one of only three players (with Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Michael Jordan) to win three consecutive MVPs.
He was a McDonald’s All-American in 2006 and is a two-time FIBA World Championship gold medalist (2010, 2014)
Kevin has also won NBA All-Star Most Valuable Player Award in 2012 and he’s been selected to five All-NBA First Teams.
The Oklahoma City Thunder are currently on their way to the finals after defeating rivals Los Angeles Clippers. This playoff run puts Kevin in the best position to claim his first NBA Championship with his MVP-level play!
Who Is Kevin Durant? He’s a man on fire, taking one of the league’s smallest markets all the way. And he continues to rise to every occasion making us remember why we love this game.
