Durant averaged 20.3 PPG, 4.4 RPG, 2.4 APG in his sophomore season for Seattle Supersonics (RIP). He led them to an improved record of 37-45. After a year in Oklahoma City, he averaged 28.0 PPG, 7.9 RPG, 3.5 APG during his third campaign there. The Thunder went on to win 50 games and clinch their spot in the playoffs’ second round – it was the first time that they made it past the regular season since relocating from Seattle. How he became one of the best players in the NBA
Before making it to the NBA, he played college basketball for three years at the University of Texas. As a freshman in Austin, he played 30 games and averaged 25 minutes per game. He averaged 11.1 PPG, 4.4 RPG, 1.3 APG while shooting 44% from the field. During the NCAA Tournament that year, he was in double-digits every game and helped Texas win the Big 12 conference tournament. His team got eliminated during the first round of March Madness by Gonzaga, though.
KD’s second year in college saw him average 25.8 PPG, 11 RPG, 1 APG for Texas Longhorns. He started all 35 games he played in, and he was named Big 12 Player of the Year. He ranked third in the country in scoring, second in rebounds per game, and third with 27 double-doubles on his belt. In his last season with UT, he averaged 25.8 PPG, 11 RPG, 2 APG while making a career high of 41% of his shots from the field and 50% from downtown. He was an All-American, Big 12 Player of the Year for the second year in a row, and he won the Wayman Tisdale Award given to the nation’s top freshman player.
