Remember how people went insane over Valorant’s kernal level anti-cheat last year? Well, it’s here to stay, and it may become a trend in many future games, according to Riot, which just published a blog post on the present status and future of Vanguard, their anti-cheat program. “Report rates are at an all-time low,” Riot says, but it isn’t resting on its laurels since the people who create the cheat programs aren’t either.
“Combating cheating isn’t a one-and-done answer like sophisticated anti-cheat software or sentient AI — it’s a never-ending arms race.” […] Hardware cheats are becoming more prevalent. These are hacks that need on an external piece of hardware to operate, and are designed to go beyond the team’s safeguards and detections. Other new concepts, like as machine learning algorithms, have been implemented by cheat developers.”
The company claims it will “continue to iterate on the greatest version of Vanguard with a focus on keeping cheaters out of the ecosystem for good,” which is unsurprising. It’s also looking at “fighting other kinds of game integrity abuse, such as cheating to obtain an unfair advantage indirectly.” Specifically, Riot’s “automatic procedures” will be used to penalize players whose stats have been inflated by fraudulent accounts. Now, if it could only include a PvE horde mode…
